CHRISTMAS 2020
Hello Year 3! Hopefully these resources will help you to practise this year's Christmas and Winter songs at home. We will be recording them at the end of term. Remember to rehearse your class song and then scroll down to practise the whole school songs (Thina Singa, Silver Bells and Jingle Bells).
Year 3 Silver - Mountain Song
You can practise by singing along to the backing track. If you don't have a tuned percussion instrument at home, you can write D and E on a piece of paper and practise playing the notes at the right time - like we did in class!
Now first we gaze at the mountain (D)
We gaze at the mountain (E)
We gaze at the mountain (D)
'Cos that's what mountaineers do! (Don't play!)
And then we climb, climb up the mountain...
And then we walk, walk, walk, walk up the mountain...
And then we run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run down the mountain...
And then we wave, wave, wave, wave at the cameras...
And then we bump arms with the people...
And then we dream of the mountain...
Year 3 Gold - Carol of the Drum
Use the track and lyrics below to practise this calm carol about finding something to share, even when you don't have much to give. Remember we are using the tuned percussion instruments to play some of the onomatopoeic phrases.
Come they told me
Pa rum pum pum pum (E, F, E, F, E)
A new born King to see
Pa rum pum pum pum (E, F, E, F, E)
Our finest gifts we bring
Pa rum pum pum pum (A, G, F, E, D)
To lay before the King
Pa rum pum pum pum, (shhh!)
rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum
So to honor Him
Pa rum pum pum pum (E, F, E, F, E)
When we come
Little baby
Pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too
Pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring
Pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give our King
Pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum
Shall I play for you?
Pa rum pum pum pum
On my drum
Thina Singa (whole school)
We think you know the words to this song from South Africa by now!
Jingle Bells in English and Spanish (whole school)
Don't forget to work hard on your Spanish words using the pronunciation guides in the playlist! Can you find something to use as an instrument in the instrumental verse? Pots and pans, or even some jingle bells?
Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh,
O’er the fields we go,
Laughing all the way! (Ha, ha, ha!)
Bells on bobtail ring,
Making spirits bright,
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight. Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way!
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh!
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way!
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh!
Cascabel, cascabel
Lindo cascabel!
Con sus notas de alegría
Va anunciando él
Cascabel, cascabel
Lindo cascabel!
Con sus notas de alegría
Va anunciado él
Silver Bells (whole school)
A nice slow waltz celebrating Christmas in the city!
Some classes have been learning the British Sign Language version. Learn the signs here with Kate from Hackney Music Service:
Here are some versions by Bing Crosby and the Supremes. It's a popular song, so you can find many more versions online!
City sidewalks, busy sidewalks
Dressed in holiday style
In the air there's a feeling of Christmas
Children laughing, people passing
Meeting smile after smile
And on every street corner you hear
Dressed in holiday style
In the air there's a feeling of Christmas
Children laughing, people passing
Meeting smile after smile
And on every street corner you hear
Silver bells, (silver bells) silver bells (silver bells)
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring-a-ling, (ring-a-ling)
Hear them ring, (hear them ring)
Soon it will be Christmas day
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring-a-ling, (ring-a-ling)
Hear them ring, (hear them ring)
Soon it will be Christmas day
Strings of street lights, even stoplights
Blinkin' bright red and green
As the shoppers rush home with their treasures
Hear the snow crunch, see the kids bunch
This is Santa's big day
And above all this bustle you hear
Blinkin' bright red and green
As the shoppers rush home with their treasures
Hear the snow crunch, see the kids bunch
This is Santa's big day
And above all this bustle you hear
Chorus
Autumn 2020
Playing Tuned Percussion
This term we are getting to grips with beaters and using them to play tuned percussion instruments! There is more information about what tuned percussion means below, as well as links to some great tuned percussion players from different countries and different genres.
This term we are getting to grips with beaters and using them to play tuned percussion instruments! There is more information about what tuned percussion means below, as well as links to some great tuned percussion players from different countries and different genres.
This knowledge organiser lays out the skills and vocabulary that we will cover in this topic.
We sorted percussion instruments into tuned and untuned categories. This helped us to understand that we are able to play a range of different pitches (high and low notes) on tuned percussion, so we can use them to play a melody or a rhythm. Untuned percussion instruments are perfect for rhythms.
Autumn 2019
Stone Age Music! We have been learning a song to teach us about life in the stone age, as well as about musical rhythms. Sing along here!
Walking up the stairs
We had fun in our small group today, using percussion instruments to compose a piece about going up and down the stairs (and learning about pitch at the same time). Hope you like it!
Year 3 in Limboland - October 2018
Our Year 3 children all enjoyed a wonderful concert at the Barbican Concert Hall, with music played by the London Symphony Orchestra. The music was based on Presto and Zesto in Limboland - a new publication of a story by Arthur Yorinks, with pictures by Maurice Sendack. What a topsy turvey world! We loved singing along with the Limboland song.
The children in Year 3 created some pictures of how they imagined Limboland to look, and wrote letters to the LSO with their feedback about the concert. Enjoy!
Monday 26th MarchHere's Gold Class playing The Sea. Well done if you were holding the long semibreve (4-beat) notes as well as playing the short crotchet (1-beat) notes in time with the music.
Monday 4th March
Wow! Silver class have been working so hard on playing in time together, and playing long and short notes on their tuned percussion instruments. This is us playing a piece called The Sea in class today. What do you think?
