Performers

Queensbridge has got talent! And we love to hear it. Some of the children who have been learning instruments have been serenading us in assembly or in class.
Check out their playing here!

Summer 2023
What a wonderful piano performance in assembly this morning from this wonderful player, who took her Grade 4 today!

Our Djembe group meet once a week and are practising hard for the end of year assembly!

These two fantastic Year 5s wowed us with their improvisatory performance this monring:

Autumn 2022
We are excited to have more performers in assembly this year. Keep up the practice and the beautiful playing, and come and join the school orchestra!

June - July 2022
Wow - these children are making great progress with their playing this term! Year 3 trumpet players, string soloists from Year 6, and cellists from Years 3 and 4.

May 2022
We were so proud of our big performance this month with the orchestra, choirs and lots of soloists. Watch below:

23rd March
Some of our wonderful cellists brought their cellos to play to Year 1 and 2 in assembly this morning. Thanks to you all - you have been making great progress this year. You can hear Hot Cross Buns, Little Bird and Edelweiss (a famous waltz from The Sound of Music). Enjoy the videos below and listen out for some lovely dynamics (loud and quiet) from Pip!

22nd February
We had a very special woodwind concert given by our flute and clarinet players today. You can catch their performances below. WELL DONE and THANK YOU to all of our wonderful performers, and thank you to everyone who came to watch.

February 2022
Our Year 1 children have had some special visitors in music assembly, with some fantastic performances by musicians from Years 5 and 6. They have heard trumpets and violins and will no doubt hear some more instruments next month. Lots of the children are feeling inspired to start learning an instrument as well. Do you recognise any of these pieces? Which one do you like best, and why? Which instrument would you like to try? Thanks to our talented performers: Elio, Maliyah, Naher, Nadaysha, Paige, Kiyah, Mernya and Matej.
Year 1 had to have a go at clapping along with this Sword Dance. Do you think they are good at keeping with the beat?

January 2022
Luca popped into the music room to play a tune he just learnt on the piano. Well done, Luca - keep it up.
Autumn 2021
It is so wonderful to be back in bigger groups to share music again. Thanks to Joshua and Tamar from Y6 who kicked off this year's instrumental performances with their beautiful music in Tuesday's assembly. The children learnt about the different woodwind instruments they can learn at Queensbridge and then Tamar played Hot Cross Buns and Oats and Beans on the flute, and Joshua played Frère Jaques and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the clarinet. They are accompanied by their tutor, Mr McChesney. How do they play their instruments to make a sound? How do the instruments sound different?

Summer 2020
Thanks to Kejal for bring her saz to play to me today. What a wonderful sound this Turkish instrument makes. (click the link to read more about the instrument. Saz is a short name for the family of plucked string instruments called bağlama)
It's been lovely to hear some of our keyworker children practising their instruments in school. Here's a clip of Victoria learning a new 'fill' on the drum kit:
Thank you to Arlo and Otto for sharing videos of themselves practising their instruments in lockdown. It would be fantastic to hear from more of you. Send your videos to music@queensbridge.hackney.sch.uk if you would like to share them. Enjoy!
Otto getting to grips with a tricky saxophone solo on John Coltrane's Jazz classic,
Giant Steps. Seriously impressive!
Arlo with some lovely smooth piano playing.

11th March 2020
We were treated to performances by two of our more advanced Year 5 instrumentalists at Queensbridge this morning. Victor played Concerto No. 5, Third Movement by the composer Seitz, on violin. Lexi gave us a piano rendition of Imagine by John Lennon. The children in assembly were in awe!
26th February 2020
It was the turn of our Year 5 girls this morning. Here's Elsa playing White Rose of Athens on piano, Alaa playing Spinning Wheel on violin, and Lerin playing a minuet on the piano.
12th February 2020
Suvi in Year 2 performed Sunrise on piano
29th January 2020
Alice, Anna and Millie treated us to some classical piano pieces. We even sang along with Beethoven's famous Ode To Joy...

Last term, Amelia played the piano in the music room just before taking her Grade 1 exam!

And Wendy and Alex came to play their instruments:

Thames Festival Project - September 2015
Children in Y6 class took part in the Mayor's Thames Festival as part of the Kids Choir. Under the direction of the National Youth Choir's Dominic Peckham, they performed a selection of songs from around the world. At school and in rehearsals with Dominic, the children learnt different riffs for each song and joined hundreds of children from other London schools for the final performance in the Scoop. Watch the video below to hear the songs and check out the amazing sound!
