I Am Somebody

At Queensbridge, everybody is somebody. We have been inspired by Jesse Jackson reciting the poem I Am - Somebody  by Reverend William Holmes Borders with children on Sesame Street in 1972.  Queensbridge produced it's own version to celebrate the diversity of the school community.
In class bubbles and at home, children have been writing their own poems. Some of us have been creating backing tracks with SONGMAKER CHROME in groups, and then reciting the poems with a solo line and a unison, choral response. Here are some of our first recordings. From the Year 1 Wild Foxes bubble:

And from the keyworker bubble with children from Y3-6:

The Stay Safe Rap

As the school opens up to more children this week, we are thinking about sharing the message to help all of our community to stay safe.
Here's a little old-skool rap to help us remember the new rules. Can you rap it with the backing track below and learn it off by heart?

We're staying safe at Queensbridge School
Hey! Can you follow the golden rules?
Wash your hands before you touch ya face
try to keep to your personal space
Sanitize. Don't keep touching your eyes!
Give your friend a smile, but no high fives
We'll have fun with our class bubble
Just listen up, and stay outa trouble!

You can make your own beats to accompany the rap with CHROME SONGMAKER. Please send any recordings of you or your family rap to music@queensbridge.hackney.sch.uk!

LISTEN AND RAP TO BACKING TRACKS MADE BY OUR YEAR 6  CHILDREN HERE!

Here's a full version and an echo track to help you to learn it:
