This summer, our Y6 leavers treated us to a wonderful performance of Matilda the Musical in a short version based on Roald Dahl's favourite book, and with three songs from Tim Minchin's West End show. Each and every one of you shined in the performance, and with helping to prepare props, costumes and programmes. Thank you for all of the musicality and enthusiasm that you have shared with us at Queensbridge. We will miss you, and wish you well with your future music-making.
You can enjoy some picture AND the complete wonderful performance below!
On Monday 23rd of May, 50 children from our junior choir and chamber choir went to the O2 Arena to take part in the Young Voices concert. We were joined by children from 181 schools - more than 8000 school children in total. Loads of parents came to support us and enjoy what was a truly memorable concert.
It took us a long time to get there, but it was worth the wait. All of the other schools sang beautifully, with lots of harmony. We were treated to singing and dancing performances by the Beatbox Collective, MC Grammar, Urban Strides dancers and the amazing singer Natalie Williams. We felt excited, very happy, "the happiest I've ever been in my life", amazed and stunned. It was very satisfying! You can see in the photos and video just how much fun we had. Make sure you scroll all of the way to the bottom to check out our singing and dancing, and us watching some amazing performers.
Here are some more of our comments about the whole experience:
"I loved that we got to sing in the concert. We were lucky that we got our own suite!" "I liked the guy who did a backflip." "My favourite song was Sing From Your Heart." "I loved singing Titanium." "I loved O Fortuna - it was a bit scary but the lights were amazing!" "My favourite moment was the last song - Power In Me." "My favourite moment was when it went to blackout, just before the concert started." "My favourite song was Mambo Italiano." "The part I loved the most was when the red lights came on for O Fortuna." "I loved to sing the pop medley." "I learnt that we can do it - anything is possible." "I learnt how to sing using a low voice" "We are lucky that we got to sit next to our friends." "I learnt that we can always be a team." "I learnt how to beatbox." "I learnt how to dance."
Wow! Queensbridge musicians - we were blown away by your performances at the concert. We've only had a short time to prepare, but all of the groups and soloists were a joy to listen to, and you showed how much progress you are making. Keep it up! More pics to follow, but here's film of the concert to enjoy.
A group of Year 3 students visited Beaumont Lodge residential home today to take part in a music workshop. We have been linked with Beaumont Lodge (near London Fields) through an intergenerational organisation called Together With Music. We enjoyed having the chance to meet some of the residents and to learn some songs with Mary, who also played us some jazz tunes on the clarinet and saxophone.
The children listened so brilliantly and joined in whole-heartedly with the activities. We had a go at singing, actions and conducting, and we get to visit again next week! We were even given squash and biscuits after all of the music.
Can you spot your friends in the pictures? Do you know anyone who lives in a residential home? Which song from Queensbridge would you like to share with others in our local community?
Year 6 have been working really hard on their Samba Drumming for the last 5 weeks. We wanted to share this little sneak peek of Sapphire Class practising their Samba Reggae. We start with the main groove, where lots of different rhythm patterns played again and again (ostinato patterns) are played together to make polyrhythm.
What is going well? What do we need to improve? Enjoy!
"Shake off your doubt; what's within, let it OUT!" That's the advice in this wonderful song from Jon Allen, and that's what our spectacular singers in the Junior Choir are doing every time they come to rehearsal. We love this song, and are really excited to have shared it as our first song for Together With Music - an organisation that pairs schools with care homes and other groups in the local community. We can't wait to start getting to know some new friends and hope that our singing will spread some joy. We have been practising FACE singing: focus, action, confidence and energy. Do you think we have got some of these?
If you'd like to come and join our wonderful choir, we are currently rehearsing after school on Thursdays. See you there!
