Dear children, parents, teachers and friends!
It's taken me a year and a bit, but I'm finally getting round to starting to update the QB music department blog. I can see this was an amazingly active blog in the past and I've got a lot to live up to!
Thanks to everyone who came to watch and support all our Christmas shows, inside school and out. I'm so proud of all our ensembles; our choirs (Senior Choir, Junior Choir and Ms Potts' Choir Club), Orchestra, Advanced Recorders, Rock Band, all the soloists and all the children from all the different classes doing their bit too.
After the well-needed Christmas break, we'll be back with an exciting project for the next term, which I will save for my next post to tell you all about.

Wow wow wow - so much talent and hard work on show at our summer concert in July. We hope you enjoy watching your favourite moments in the film below.
The chamber choir had a brilliant day out at Cecil Sharp House in Camden and performed brilliantly, with great feedback from the adjudicators. We were a little nervous but mostly excited about performing to others, and it went really well. It was also an amazing experience to hear the other groups that performed, from primary school choirs and orchestras to borough jazz bands. Here are some pictures and videos from our big day!
This summer, our Y6 leavers treated us to a wonderful performance of Matilda the Musical in a short version based on Roald Dahl's favourite book, and with three songs from Tim Minchin's West End show. Each and every one of you shined in the performance, and with helping to prepare props, costumes and programmes. Thank you for all of the musicality and enthusiasm that you have shared with us at Queensbridge. We will miss you, and wish you well with your future music-making.

On Monday 23rd of May, 50 children from our junior choir and chamber choir went to the O2 Arena to take part in the Young Voices concert. We were joined by children from 181 schools - more than 8000 school children in total. Loads of parents came to support us and enjoy what was a truly memorable concert.
It took us a long time to get there, but it was worth the wait. All of the other schools sang beautifully, with lots of harmony. We were treated to singing and dancing performances by the Beatbox Collective, MC Grammar, Urban Strides dancers and the amazing singer Natalie Williams. We felt excited, very happy, "the happiest I've ever been in my life", amazed and stunned. It was very satisfying! You can see in the photos and video just how much fun we had. The children listened so brilliantly and joined in whole-heartedly with the activities. We had a go at singing, actions and conducting, and we get to visit again next week! We were even given squash and biscuits after all of the music.

Year 6 have been working really hard on their Samba Drumming for the last 5 weeks. We wanted to share this little sneak peek of Sapphire Class practising their Samba Reggae. We start with the main groove, where lots of different rhythm patterns played again and again (ostinato patterns) are played together to make polyrhythm.

Sing From Your Heart
Happy Christmas from all of our wonderful children and staff here at Queensbridge. Because of to Covid cases rising😷we were not able to perform a full concert as planned, but we had a mix of live singing in the playground, and all classes have made a little film of their song.

It's autumn term, and we have started the term by thinking about the music and musicians we love, and the music we don't like!
Back in June we celebrated Hackney Loves Music day for the first time! We've had the chance to celebrate different types of music and our favourite musicians, instruments, songs and pieces. We have loved hearing about the music lots of you listen to at home. Whether it's music to make you feel calm, or get up and dance, or that challenges you, this world is full of wonderful music for everyone.
We hope to make this special day a yearly tradition to rival World Book Day! In the meantime, you can enjoy lots of music recommendations from our Queensbridge superstars.
Ariana, Abba and Ava Max are some top choices, plus anything with amplifiers 💪 (Great costume, James😁)
Next up, British singer songwriters Ed Sheeran and Elton John, Freddie Mercury (lead singer with Queen, featured here in their amazing Live Aid show in 1985) and The Greatest Showman, from the popular musical.
